Tim Bajarin from PCMag suggests Intel will have its hands full and considers the Amazon Kindle an Internet Application-Specific Device.

The Kindle also incites a fresh battle for consumer dollars, since this latest Mobile Internet Device (MID) comes with an important twist. Instead of being an MID that tries to be all things to all people, the Kindle represents a specialized class of mobile digital products called Internet Application-Specific Devices (IASDs). These are Internet-connected devices that focus on specific applications.

They (Intel employees) define an MID as a device that delivers the Internet into your pocket, and is not limited to delivering only application-specific solutions such as a book reader or a navigation device.

The acronym IASD is clumsy. Instead, consumers are better served if OEMs use the general phrase "Mobile Platform."
