Amazon Kindle Version 2.0

amazon-kindle

Now that the version 1.0 is sold out and reviews are positive and negative, discussions begin regarding new features available for the version 2.0.

First and foremost, a color display would be nice.

The device weighs 10.3 ounces and uses "electronic ink" technology to mimic paper, with no backlight. The screen is black and white, for now anyway; Amazon executives have confirmed that E Ink, which manufactures the screen technology for Kindle as well as for other e-book readers like the Sony Reader, has a prototype of a color display (CNet, 2007).

What feature would interest you?

Security login to protect you account information if lost or stolen. Web browser that will include pictures or any of the plug ins for viewing animated content. Increased SD card capacity. Better PDF support.

Better button placement perhaps, it does seem odd to not have more space to hold the unit without pushing page forward/backward. How about a dim backlight (even if it would use up the battery faster)for nighttime reading...

My 14 year old son is an avid reader, and rereader of books (even with school he reads a book a day on average). Until version 2.0 comes out, we're waiting.

How about notepad capability like the iLiad? But mainly, better wireless access. The promo states that the kindle won't work in Montana or Alaska. They should add Wyoming to that list. What better market for something like this than rural readers, who have very limited choices in libraries and bookstores. That's why I was so excited when it came out. Alas, I cannot use one here. If Whispernet can't deliver, get another provider.
